Every page below has a Markdown version at the same URL plus `.md` (the home page is https://jiffyrecord.com/index.md). Everything in one file: https://jiffyrecord.com/llms-full.txt ## Facts - What it is: Capture screenshots and screen video, polish every detail in a real timeline, and let Claude help through a private local control plane. Native for Mac. - Platform: macOS 14.0 or later. Recording, editing and on-device AI run locally on the Mac. By default, shared videos are stored in the user's own Google Drive. - Free plan: video exports carry a JiffyRecord watermark and end card and are capped at 1080p. - Free plan and JiffyStudio: the Free plan adds a small JiffyRecord mark to JiffyStudio template designs; classic screenshots stay unmarked. - Lifetime license: $59 one-time (founding price until November 17, 2026; the regular price is $99) for one person on up to two Macs. It includes one year of updates; renewing updates is optional at $19/year, and the version you own keeps working. - Complete bundle: $129 (lifetime license plus one year of Cloud Personal). - Cloud plans (billed yearly only, no monthly option; coming after launch): Cloud Personal $89/year for 1 member with 100 GB of hosted storage. Teams $199/year for up to 50 members with 500 GB of shared hosted storage. - Cloud storage choice: each workspace keeps shared videos either in Google Drive (videos stay in the user's Drive; best for internal videos) or on JiffyRecord Cloud (fast instant links, built for public videos and heavy traffic). Videos can move between the two and keep the same link. Both use the JiffyRecord web player with comments, reactions, transcript, chapters, annotations and custom domains. - Cloud lapse policy: if a Cloud plan ends, JiffyRecord Cloud videos stay read-only for 30 days (links play, owner can download), then are deleted. Renewing within 30 days restores everything. Videos in Google Drive are not affected. - Trial and refunds: 7-day free trial; 30-day money-back guarantee on direct purchases. - Availability: purchasing and downloads are not open yet. Ship it polished. Hit record, talk through the thing, stop. JiffyRecord fixes the parts that make a recording look amateur before you ever open the editor. Shipped ### Capture anything on screen Full screen, one window, or a drag-selected area. Camera, microphone and system audio each land on their own track, so you can fix one without touching the others. ### Polish that happens on its own Cursor movement smooths out, clicks get a ring, the view zooms toward what you clicked, dead air disappears, and your voice runs through a real noise-reduction chain. ### Every decision stays editable Zooms, cursor effects and camera framing are stored as data, not baked into pixels. Change your mind an hour later and nothing needs re-recording. Edit ## A real editor, not a trim bar. Most recorders hand you a slider and two handles. JiffyRecord gives you the timeline you would otherwise have exported to Final Cut for. Shipped ### Multi-clip, multi-track timeline Trim, split, ripple, change speed, add transitions, titles, slides and chapters — with full undo history and autosave that survives a crash. ### Restyle the camera afterwards Move the bubble, change its shape, cut yourself out of the background or drop in a new one. After the take, not before it. ### Audio that sounds produced Record voice-over across playback with per-clip retakes. Music and system audio duck automatically underneath your voice. Screenshots ## A serious screenshot tool comes with it. Not a bolted-on afterthought. The annotation, redaction and export workflow you would otherwise buy a second app for. Included ### Annotate, stamp, explain Arrows, boxes, highlights, inline text and numbered stamps with notes. One click copies every word in the shot using on-device OCR. ### Redaction that actually redacts Redact paints a solid block into the pixels, then the finished image is read again on your Mac and any key, password or card number still readable is covered too. Blur and pixelate are style effects, not security. ### Share it without the ugly Gradient backdrops with padding and rounded corners, export to an exact target file size, drag the shot into any app, or upload to Drive with the link already on your clipboard. On-device AI ## The AI runs on your Mac. Transcription, captions and chapters are computed on the machine you are sitting at. No upload, no per-minute credits, no queue, no extra bill. No cloud credits ### Captions and chapters, generated Transcribe the recording, get editable auto-captions in styled presets, and chapter markers detected from what you actually said. ### Cut the dead air Silences are found and removed automatically — and every cut it made is visible, adjustable and undoable. ### Hand the controls to Claude A local MCP server lets Claude open a project, make an edit, checkpoint it and export, through typed commands with previews and undo. Not open access to your disk. Ownership ## Your videos stay in your Drive, not on our servers. Recording goes to your Mac. Sharing goes to your Google Drive, with the link on your clipboard the moment you stop. We hold the app you bought, not the files you made with it. Hosting on JiffyRecord Cloud is only for people who choose it on a yearly Cloud plan. **Your Mac** **Your Google Drive** **Anyone with the link** No JiffyRecord server in this diagram. That is the point. ### Stored in your Drive OAuth with the minimal drive.file scope. JiffyRecord can only see the files it created for you. ### Shared on your terms Public or invite-only, email invites, and access you can revoke at any time. ### Yours after you stop paying Videos in your Drive stay there whether or not you ever pay us. No plan can hold that library hostage. ## Right where your work already happens. Edit with Claude. Share through Google Drive. Paste your video link into the places your team uses every day. The math ## Per-seat pricing is the real expense. Screen recording is not a subscription-shaped problem. Here is what a team of ten pays over three years, using each vendor's own published list price. | | 10 seats, 3 years | Billing | | --- | --- | --- | | Loom Business | $6,480 | $18 / user / month, forever | | JiffyRecord | $590 | One time. Updates after year one are optional at $19 a year | List prices observed September 2026, before tax. Loom includes cross-platform apps and team administration that JiffyRecord does not, and hosted storage that JiffyRecord offers only on yearly Cloud plans. This compares cost, not scope. [Help & guides ↗](https://jiffyrecord.com/guides) **What is JiffyRecord?** JiffyRecord is a native Mac screen recorder and video editor for product demos, tutorials, and asynchronous communication. It combines screen capture, screenshots, an editable timeline, and local processing. **Who is JiffyRecord for?** Product teams, educators, creators, and support teams who want to explain something on screen and refine it before sharing. **Which Macs does JiffyRecord support?** JiffyRecord runs on macOS 14.0 or later. A few features need macOS 26: Jiffy Magic's Apple Intelligence mode, caption translation, and copying tables from a screenshot as cells. On macOS 14 and 15, Jiffy Magic runs in its on-device Basic mode. **Do recordings have to be uploaded?** Recording and editing happen locally on your Mac. You can export a video file; sharing through Google Drive is an optional step that you control. **Where are shared videos stored?** In your own Google Drive by default. Yearly Cloud plans, which are not on sale yet, add a second option: JiffyRecord Cloud, with 100 GB of storage on Cloud Personal ($89 a year) or 500 GB on Teams ($199 a year). It gives fast links and holds up when a public video gets heavy traffic. Cloud plans are billed yearly only. **Can I change automatic edits?** Yes. The Mac app records and edits videos on your device. When you choose Google Drive sharing, files are sent directly to the Google account you authorize. ## Information we collect We may receive your email address when you join the mailing list, contact support, or purchase JiffyRecord. Lemon Squeezy processes checkout, tax, receipts, and license information as our merchant of record. Resend processes email subscriptions and transactional email delivery. ## App data Recordings, camera video, audio, cursor information, transcripts, captions, and editing projects are processed locally unless you explicitly export or share them. JiffyRecord uses Google’s limited Drive file permission to create and manage files the app uploads; it does not request access to unrelated Drive files. ## License and trial checks When you activate a license, the Mac app sends your license key and purchase email to the JiffyRecord license service at app.jiffyrecord.com. After that, it sends the key once a day to confirm the license is still active. When a trial starts, and once a day while it runs, the app also sends a one-way hash of this Mac's hardware ID so that reinstalling the app cannot restart the trial. The hash cannot be turned back into your Mac's ID. These checks are needed for the trial and license to work, so they are not affected by the usage data setting below. ## Usage data and crash reports The setting "Share anonymous usage data" is on by default. While it is on, the Mac app sends anonymous usage events and crash and hang reports to app.jiffyrecord.com. Crash and hang reports contain stack traces, the app and macOS version, and a random install ID. They never include recordings, screenshots, file names or your email address. Crash and hang reports are deleted after 30 days. Turn the setting off in Settings > Privacy to stop both usage events and crash reports. ## Website data Our hosting provider may process standard request information such as IP address, browser type, referring page, and diagnostic logs for security and reliable delivery. When configured and with your permission, Google Analytics 4 measures page views, CTA clicks, and successful email signups. We do not send your signup email in analytics events. Our page-view events omit URL query strings and fragments. Google may process device and usage information. You can allow or decline analytics, or change your choice using Analytics preferences in the footer. ## Retention and your choices Purchase records are retained as required for accounting, fraud prevention, and support. Mailing-list contacts remain until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. You can request access, correction, or deletion by emailing [hello@jiffyrecord.com](mailto:hello@jiffyrecord.com). ## Processors and international transfers We use Vercel for website hosting, Lemon Squeezy for commerce and licensing, Resend for email, Supabase for database hosting, a JiffyRecord-operated server for the license, diagnostics and Cloud services at app.jiffyrecord.com, and Google APIs only when you enable Drive sharing. These providers may process data in countries other than your own under their applicable safeguards. ## Children JiffyRecord is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. ## Changes We may update this policy as the product evolves. Your video never leaves your device: no upload, no sign-up and no watermark. ## How to convert MP4 to GIF 1. Choose an MP4 above, or drop it onto the box. 2. Set the start and end of the part you want. A GIF can be up to 30 seconds long here; shorter loops look better and stay small. 3. Pick a width and frame rate. The suggested values depend on the length of your clip. 4. Select **Convert to GIF**, check the preview, then download it. ## Settings that keep a GIF small - **Width matters most.** Doubling the width roughly quadruples the pixels in every frame. 480 px is plenty for chat and docs; use 640 to 800 px for a README or a landing page. - **Frame rate:** 10 fps is enough for screen recordings and UI demos. Use 12 to 15 fps for fast motion. - **Length:** trim to the moment that matters. Every extra second adds frames. - **Busy footage** (camera video, gradients, noise) compresses worse than flat app screens. ## Why the GIF is bigger than the MP4 MP4 stores only what changes between frames and uses millions of colors. GIF stores every frame as its own picture with at most 256 colors, compressed with a much older method. A GIF of the same clip is often several times larger than the MP4. For anything longer than a short loop, share the MP4 instead. ## Convert MP4 to GIF with FFmpeg If you prefer the command line, this FFmpeg command makes a good GIF in one pass. It builds a custom palette from your clip first, which keeps colors clean: ``` ffmpeg -ss 2 -t 8 -i input.mp4 \ -vf "fps=10,scale=640:-1:flags=lanczos,split[a][b];[a]palettegen[p];[b][p]paletteuse" \ -loop 0 output.gif ``` `-ss 2 -t 8` starts 2 seconds in and keeps 8 seconds. `fps=10` and `scale=640:-1` set the frame rate and width (height follows). `-loop 0` loops forever. ## Record GIFs on your Mac with JiffyRecord If your GIF starts as a screen recording, you can skip the conversion. JiffyRecord records your Mac screen, lets you edit the recording, and exports the whole video or just a selected clip as a GIF. On the Free plan, GIFs carry a small JiffyRecord mark. [Join waitlist →](https://jiffyrecord.com/#waitlist) ## Questions ### Is this MP4 to GIF converter free? Yes. There is no sign-up, no limit on how many GIFs you make, and no watermark. ### Is my video uploaded? No. Your browser decodes the video and builds the GIF on your device. The file is never sent to JiffyRecord or anyone else. ### Which formats work? MP4 with H.264 video works in every modern browser. MOV, M4V and WebM work when your browser can play them; HEVC (H.265) files usually play only in Safari. If a file will not open, try Safari or convert it to MP4 first. ### How long can the GIF be? Up to 30 seconds per GIF. Longer GIFs become very large and slow to load, so trim to the part that matters. ### Does it work on a phone? It is built for desktop browsers. Phones can convert short clips, but they have less memory, so keep the width and length low. --- HTML version: https://jiffyrecord.com/tools/mp4-to-gif Last updated: 2026-10-15 Site map for agents: https://jiffyrecord.com/llms.txt --- [Help & guides](https://jiffyrecord.com/guides) / Plan your first screen recording on Mac # Plan your first screen recording on Mac Choose a capture area, check your sound, and create a recording that is easy to refine. JiffyRecord Team · September 9, 2026 1. Fix framing before increasing resolution 2. Use zoom to explain a detail 3. Check the final destination ## Fix framing before increasing resolution A large desktop reduced to a small player makes text difficult to read even when the original capture is sharp. Record a smaller window or region and enlarge the app’s text when possible. Remove empty space that does not help the viewer understand the task. ## Use zoom to explain a detail Zoom into the control or result you are discussing, then return to the wider view when context matters. Avoid constant movement. In JiffyRecord, review the timing of automatic zooms and adjust any moment that moves attention away from the narration. ## Check the final destination Play the exported file at the size it will appear in a help article, chat, or social feed. JiffyRecord Team·October 13, 2026 There are three ways to record a Zoom meeting on a Mac. Which one you use depends on whether you’re the host, which Zoom plan you have, and what you plan to do with the recording afterwards. > **First, a rule that applies to every method:** tell people you’re recording. Zoom shows a recording notice when you use its own recorder, but recording laws differ by country and state, and many require consent from everyone on the call. If in doubt, ask out loud and get a clear yes. ## Method 1: Zoom local recording (free and paid plans) Local recording saves the meeting as a video file on your Mac. 1. Start or join the meeting in the **Zoom desktop app**. Local recording isn’t available in the browser. 2. Click **Record** in the meeting toolbar. If you only see **Record to the Cloud**, open the **More** menu and choose **Record on this Computer**. 3. Use **Pause** or **Stop** in the toolbar as needed. 4. When the meeting ends, Zoom converts the recording. Let it finish, because quitting early can leave you with an unplayable file. By default, local recordings are saved to **Documents → Zoom**, in a folder named with the meeting date and topic. You can change this in **Zoom → Settings → Recording**. ## Method 2: Zoom cloud recording (paid plans) On paid Zoom plans, the host can choose **Record to the Cloud**. The recording is processed on Zoom’s servers and appears in your Zoom web portal under **Recordings**. This is useful if you want a shareable link without uploading anything, or if your Mac is low on storage. ## How to record a Zoom meeting when you’re not the host Zoom’s own recorder needs the host’s permission. Ask the host to allow it from the **Participants** panel (**More → Allow Record**). Once they do, the **Record** button works for you. If the host can’t allow it, you can record your screen and system audio with a screen recorder. Zoom doesn’t stop this, but the recording notice won’t appear either, so asking for consent is entirely up to you. Get permission first. ## Method 3: Record with a screen recorder A screen recorder makes sense when you want more control than Zoom gives you. For example, you might want to record only one window, keep your microphone on its own track, or edit the result before sending it. 1. Before the call, open your recorder and choose the Zoom window or the whole screen. 2. Turn on **system audio** so you capture the other participants, and turn on your **microphone** for your own voice. (Our guide on [screen recording with audio on Mac](https://jiffyrecord.com/blog/screen-record-mac-with-audio) explains the difference.) 3. Record a five-second test and play it back. Check that you can hear both sides. 4. Join the meeting and start recording. With **JiffyRecord**, the screen, your microphone and system audio are saved as separate, editable sources. That makes it easy to turn down one loud participant, cut the first five minutes of small talk, or generate captions after the call. ## Turn a one-hour recording into something people will watch Almost nobody rewatches a full meeting recording. A few minutes of editing makes it far more useful: - **Cut the waiting room.** Trim the start and end of the call. - **Remove dead air.** Long pauses add up quickly over an hour. - **Add chapters** for each agenda item so viewers can jump to the part they need. - **Add captions.** People skim captions faster than they watch video, and captions help anyone watching without sound. - **Share a link, not a file.** A 600 MB attachment won’t make it through email. Upload the recording to shared storage and send the link. ## Common problems **The Record button is greyed out.** You’re not the host and haven’t been given permission, or your administrator has turned recording off for your account. **The recording has no audio from other people.** If you used a screen recorder, system audio wasn’t turned on. Zoom’s own recorder captures everyone automatically. **I can’t find the file.** Open the **Meetings** tab in the Zoom app, select **Recorded**, and click **Open** to reveal the folder. JiffyRecord Team·October 13, 2026 There are two kinds of audio in a Mac screen recording, and most “my recording has no sound” problems come from mixing them up: - **Microphone audio**: your voice, picked up by the built-in mic, a headset, or a USB microphone. - **System audio**: sound coming *out of* your Mac, such as a video, a call, an app alert, or music. macOS records the first one easily. The second one depends on your macOS version and the tool you use. Here is how to get each one, and both together. ## Method 1: The Screenshot toolbar (Shift + Command + 5) This is the quickest built-in option and works on every recent Mac. 1. Press **Shift + Command + 5** to open the Screenshot toolbar. 2. Choose **Record Entire Screen** or **Record Selected Portion**. 3. Click **Options**. 4. Under **Microphone**, pick your mic. It defaults to **None**, which is why so many first recordings come out silent. 5. If your version of macOS shows a system-audio choice in this menu, turn it on to capture app sound as well. 6. Click **Record**. To stop, click the stop button in the menu bar or press **Command + Control + Esc**. The recording is saved to your Desktop by default. You can change that under **Options → Save to**. ## Method 2: QuickTime Player QuickTime gives you the same capture with a slightly different interface. 1. Open **QuickTime Player** and choose **File → New Screen Recording**. 2. The same Screenshot toolbar appears. Open **Options** and choose your microphone. 3. Record, stop, and QuickTime opens the result so you can trim it right away with **Edit → Trim**. QuickTime is handy for a quick trim. For anything beyond that, such as removing pauses, adding captions, or zooming into small text, you’ll want a real editor. ## Method 3: Capture system audio with a virtual audio driver If your macOS version has no system-audio option, the classic workaround is a free virtual audio device such as BlackHole: 1. Install the virtual audio driver. 2. In **Audio MIDI Setup**, create a **Multi-Output Device** that includes both your speakers or headphones and the virtual device, so you can still hear what you are recording. 3. Set that Multi-Output Device as your sound output in **System Settings → Sound**. 4. In the Screenshot toolbar, choose the virtual device as the **Microphone**. This works, but it has real downsides. You can’t adjust the output volume while a Multi-Output Device is active. You have to switch everything back afterwards. And recording your voice *and* system audio at once means building an Aggregate Device as well. It’s fine for a one-off recording and fiddly for daily use. ## Method 4: A recorder that captures both natively Modern Mac screen recorders use Apple’s ScreenCaptureKit, which can capture app and system audio directly with no driver, no routing and no Audio MIDI Setup. In **JiffyRecord**, for example, you choose screen or window, camera, microphone and system audio in the recorder before you start. Each source stays a separate, editable layer, so you can turn down a loud demo video without touching your narration. After you stop, silence removal, captions and click-aware zoom are applied automatically, and every one of those changes stays editable. ## Why is there no sound in my Mac screen recording? Work through these in order: 1. **Microphone set to None.** Open **Options** in the Screenshot toolbar and choose a mic. This is the most common cause. 2. **Microphone permission is off.** Go to **System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone** and make sure the app you’re recording with is allowed. 3. **Screen recording permission is off.** Under **Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording**, allow your recorder. Then quit and reopen it, because the permission only takes effect after a relaunch. 4. **You expected system audio but only recorded the mic.** The built-in mic can faintly pick up your speakers, which is easy to mistake for system audio. If app sound is missing, use Method 3 or 4. 5. **Headphones were the output.** With headphones on, the mic can’t hear app sound at all. Capture system audio directly instead. 6. **The wrong input device was selected.** If you plugged in a headset or USB mic, check that it is the device selected under Options. ## Can I screen record on Mac with my voice and my face? Yes. The built-in tools record your screen and microphone but not your camera. A common workaround is to open Photo Booth or a QuickTime **New Movie Recording** window and record it as part of the screen. A dedicated recorder records the camera as its own layer instead, so you can move it, resize it or hide it later, without capturing a floating window that sits in the way. ## Quick checklist before you record - Pick the mic explicitly. Never rely on the default. - Do a five-second test recording and play it back with headphones. - Silence notifications with **Focus → Do Not Disturb**. - Close apps that might play unexpected sounds. - Decide whether you need system audio *before* you start, not after. Compare the options by what actually differs: editing depth, sharing, platform, privacy, and long-term price. JiffyRecord Team·October 13, 2026 Screen Studio made automatic zoom and smooth cursor motion the standard for polished Mac screen recordings. It’s a good product. People usually start looking for an alternative for one of five reasons, and the right replacement depends on which one is yours. ## 1. “I need to share a link, not export a file” Screen Studio is built around export: you record, polish, then render a video file. That’s ideal for launch videos and social clips, and slower for a quick update to a teammate. **Look for:** a tool that copies a share link as soon as you stop recording. Also check where the video is hosted. Loom and similar tools host videos in their own workspace. Tools such as JiffyRecord upload to storage you already own, like your Google Drive. ## 2. “I want a real timeline” Automatic zoom is great until you need to fix one zoom, cut a section, or add a title card. Check how much control you get *after* the automation runs: - Can you edit each automatic zoom, or only turn them all on or off? - Is there a multi-track timeline for camera, narration, titles and music? - Can you edit by transcript, deleting words to cut the video? - Are captions, chapters and silence removal editable after they are generated? JiffyRecord was designed around this: zooms, captions, chapters, voice cleanup and dead-air removal are all generated, and all stay editable on a visible multi-track timeline. ## 3. “I also need Windows” Screen Studio is Mac-only. If your team works across platforms, consider cross-platform recorders such as Loom, or open-source options like Cap. Expect to give up some Mac-native polish in exchange. (JiffyRecord is also Mac-only, so it won’t solve this one.) ## 4. “I want something cheaper or a different payment model” Screen Studio is sold as a monthly or yearly subscription. Its site says one-time licenses are no longer available to new buyers (checked October 14, 2026). Always check [their current pricing](https://screen.studio/). Alternatives fall into three groups: - **Subscription tools** such as Loom or Tella, which include hosting and team features. - **One-time purchases** such as JiffyRecord or CleanShot X, where you own the version you bought. - **Free and open-source tools**, which cost nothing but usually offer less automatic polish. Work out what each one costs for every person who records over two or three years, not just the first month. ## 5. “I want screenshots and video in one app” If you also use a separate screenshot utility, an all-in-one capture app can replace two tools. CleanShot X is the best-known screenshot-first option. JiffyRecord combines screenshots (shelf, annotations, OCR, pins, history) with its video timeline, and can turn a screenshot into a video. ## A short comparison | If you mainly need… | Consider | | --- | --- | | Highly produced social and launch videos | Stay with Screen Studio | | Instant links, team workspace, cross-platform | Loom | | Free and open source | Cap | | Mature screenshot utilities plus video | CleanShot X | | Editable automation, your own Drive, pay once, private local AI | JiffyRecord | ## Test before you switch Whatever you shortlist, record the *same* two-minute demo in each tool and time the whole process: from opening the app to sending a link a colleague can watch. That one number tells you more than any feature table. Here are reliable ways to capture a full web page or long document on a Mac, plus how to keep the result readable. JiffyRecord Team·October 13, 2026 macOS has no built-in way to take a scrolling screenshot. The Screenshot toolbar (**Shift + Command + 5**) captures only what is visible on screen. But you can still capture a full page. The best method depends on what you’re capturing. ## Full web pages: use the browser Browsers already know the full height of a page, so they can render all of it in one image, with no stitching and no seams. ### Chrome or Edge 1. Open the page and press **Option + Command + I** to open Developer Tools. 2. Press **Command + Shift + P** to open the command menu. 3. Type **screenshot** and choose **Capture full size screenshot**. The PNG of the entire page goes to your Downloads folder. ### Firefox 1. Right-click anywhere on the page and choose **Take Screenshot**. 2. Click **Save full page**, then **Download** or **Copy**. Firefox makes this the easiest of the three, with no developer tools needed. ### Safari 1. Turn on developer features in **Safari → Settings → Advanced** if you haven’t already. 2. Open the page, then press **Option + Command + I** to open Web Inspector. 3. In the **Elements** tab, right-click the `` element and choose **Capture Screenshot**. Another option in Safari is **File → Export as PDF**. That keeps the text selectable but may paginate the layout. ## Long documents and PDFs For documents, a full-length image is often the wrong format. A PDF keeps text sharp at every zoom level and searchable. - **Pages, Word or Google Docs:** use **File → Export → PDF**. - **Any app that can print:** press **Command + P**, then choose **PDF → Save as PDF**. - **Need an image anyway?** Open the PDF in **Preview** and use **File → Export** to save each page as PNG or JPEG. ## Apps that aren’t web pages Chat threads, long settings panes, spreadsheets and design tools are the hard case. The browser methods don’t apply, and the app may not export a long view. Your practical options: 1. **Resize first.** Make the window as tall as your display allows, hide toolbars, and zoom out slightly. Often one tall capture is enough. 2. **Capture in sections.** Take overlapping screenshots, then combine them in an image editor. Overlap each one by a few lines so the joins line up. 3. **Use a scrolling-capture tool.** Several third-party Mac screenshot apps scroll the window for you and stitch the frames together. Results vary with sticky headers and animated content, so check the edges. 4. **Record a short video instead.** If the point is to show *how* something flows rather than to archive it, a 10-second screen recording of you scrolling is often clearer than a 6,000-pixel image no one will scroll through. ## Make the screenshot readable A scrolling screenshot that is too wide or too tall turns into unreadable thumbnails in Slack and email. Before you share: - **Crop to what matters.** Remove navigation bars, footers and ad slots. - **Annotate the key part.** Use an arrow, a box or a highlight so people know where to look. - **Hide sensitive data.** Long captures often include email addresses, names or tokens further down the page that you didn’t notice. Cover them with a solid block before sharing. Blur and pixelate are style effects, and pixelated text can sometimes be read back. - **Extract the text when that’s what you need.** If someone needs to copy the content, OCR is faster than retyping. JiffyRecord’s screenshot tools include annotation, OCR and a capture history, so you can mark up a capture and copy its text from the same place. ## Quick reference | What you’re capturing | Best method | | --- | --- | | Web page in Firefox | Right-click → Take Screenshot → Save full page | | Web page in Chrome or Edge | DevTools → Capture full size screenshot | | Web page in Safari | Web Inspector → Capture Screenshot on `` | | Document | Export or print to PDF | | Native app view | Resize and capture, stitch sections, or record a short video | [Make small text readable in recordings](https://jiffyrecord.com/guides/fix-unreadable-screen-videos) · [See JiffyRecord use cases](https://jiffyrecord.com/use-cases) [Join waitlist →](https://jiffyrecord.com/#waitlist) [Help & guides](https://jiffyrecord.com/guides) · [Explore use cases](https://jiffyrecord.com/use-cases) --- HTML version: https://jiffyrecord.com/blog/scrolling-screenshot-mac Last updated: 2026-10-13 Site map for agents: https://jiffyrecord.com/llms.txt --- [Blog](https://jiffyrecord.com/blog) / How to turn an async video update into a useful decision # How to turn an async video update into a useful decision A simple structure for screen-recorded team updates: context, evidence, recommendation, and a specific request. JiffyRecord Team·September 9, 2026 ## Decide whether video helps Use a screen recording when the viewer needs to see a design, reproduce a problem, or understand a sequence of actions. Use a short written message for a simple status or a question with no visual context. A recording should reduce the work of understanding the update, not add another inbox item. ## Put the decision in the first sentence Open with the question you need answered. For example: “I need a decision on the mobile checkout layout before we implement it.” Then show the relevant screen and explain the constraints. This gives the viewer a reason to watch and a clear idea of which details matter. ## Separate evidence from your recommendation Show the behavior you observed, explain its consequence, and then state your recommendation. For a bug, show the starting state, exact steps, and actual result. For a design review, show the alternatives and explain the tradeoff. Avoid presenting your preferred option as if the team has already approved it. ## Send a useful companion message Pair the video with a brief note: “Decision needed: choose layout A or B. My recommendation: B, because the primary action stays visible. Please reply in this thread by Thursday.” Add the relevant document link and any context that should be searchable as text. The recording supplies the visual explanation; the message makes the request easy to find. ## Close the loop after the reply Write the decision and owner back into the project’s normal record. If the video becomes reference material, give it a descriptive title and remove obsolete versions from the main documentation. For repeated explanations, turn the useful parts into a short tutorial instead of forwarding a long historical conversation. JiffyRecord Team·September 9, 2026 ## Start with one viewer and one outcome A useful product demo shows one person how to complete one meaningful task. Before recording, finish this sentence: “After watching, a new customer will know how to ___.” If the sentence contains three unrelated tasks, make three videos. A focused promise gives you a clear test for every scene: does this help the viewer reach the outcome? ## Use a five-scene storyboard Open with the finished result. Show the starting screen and explain what the viewer needs before beginning. Walk through the two or three actions that produce the result. Show the result again so the viewer can verify success. Close with one next step. Write these five beats on a note beside your screen; you do not need a word-for-word script. ## Example: inviting a teammate A simple narration could be: “Here is how to invite a teammate to your workspace. Start in Settings, then open Members. Choose Invite, enter their work email, and select the correct role. Send the invitation. You can confirm it was sent in the pending invitations list. Ask your teammate to accept the email to finish.” Record with example data and check the role before showing the final action. ## Record for the edit Pause briefly between scenes. Those gaps make it easier to find clean cut points. If you misspeak, repeat the sentence from the beginning instead of restarting the entire recording. Keep the cursor still while explaining the result, then move it deliberately when you demonstrate the next action. In JiffyRecord, use the timeline to remove the failed take and review any zoom before export. ## Check the video as a first-time viewer Watch once with sound and once muted. Can you read every label at the size your audience will see? Does the video explain the starting point? Are names and sample data safe to share? Does the ending give a single next step? If the answer is no, fix that scene before recording a longer version. JiffyRecord Team·September 9, 2026 ## Prepare the screen before the story Close unrelated tabs, hide personal notifications, and open a clean example account. Remove customer names, tokens, and private messages from the capture area. Choose a window or region when the full desktop adds no useful context. Enlarge small interface text before recording rather than relying on viewers to watch full-screen. ## Make a short audio test Record a sentence using the same microphone and room you will use for the real take. Listen back through headphones. Check for clipping, echo, keyboard noise, and a microphone that was accidentally muted. If you need application audio, test it separately from your voice so you know both are audible. ## Keep the recording easy to edit Explain one action at a time. Leave a small pause before changing topics. Move the cursor with intent and avoid circling buttons while thinking. When you make a mistake, pause and repeat the full sentence. These habits create cleaner edit points than trying to repair a sentence halfway through a word. ## Review the exported file Play the actual export, not only the editor preview. Check the first and last seconds, any cuts near speech, caption spelling, and text near the frame edges. Review in a smaller window to approximate an embedded player. If a vertical crop hides the important action, reframe it or publish the landscape version instead. ## Check the recipient experience If you share a Drive link, verify access with a separate account or signed-out window appropriate to your audience. Confirm that the file can be played and that private viewers have not accidentally received public access. Include one sentence explaining what the video answers and what the recipient should do next. JiffyRecord Team·August 18, 2026 A useful product demo is not a tour of every button. It is a short path from a viewer’s problem to a visible result. ## Start with one promise Write the outcome in a single sentence before you record. “By the end of this video, you will know how to invite a teammate” is much stronger than “Here is an overview of settings.” If the promise needs an “and,” consider making two videos. Short, focused recordings are easier to watch, update, and reuse. ## Prepare the screen, not a script Close unrelated tabs, silence notifications, and place the application in a clean starting state. Use a few bullet points rather than a word-for-word script. You will sound more natural while still avoiding detours. ## Let movement carry meaning Move the cursor only when it helps the viewer understand. Pause briefly over the next action, click, and give the interface time to respond. Automatic zoom works best when your pointer movement is deliberate. ## Cut the waiting Remove long loads, repeated phrases, and silent setup. Keep the moments that build trust: a brief pause can feel human, while eight seconds waiting for a page to load feels broken. ## End with the next action Tell the viewer exactly what to do after the video. Open the setting, reply with feedback, or try the workflow. A demo should move work forward—not simply prove that a feature exists. JiffyRecord is designed around this rhythm: record a clear path, let the app polish cursor movement and silence, then share the link while the context is fresh. Your teammate should not need to scrub through a video to discover a deadline. Pair a recording with a one-sentence summary and an explicit request. ## Meet when the value is in the conversation Use a live meeting for negotiation, sensitive feedback, open-ended discovery, and decisions that require rapid back-and-forth. JiffyRecord Team·August 10, 2026 The best Loom alternative is not the product with the longest feature table. It is the one that makes your most common recording workflow faster while matching how you want to own and share your work. ## How quickly can you share? Measure the full path: start recording, stop, wait for processing, copy a link, and verify that the recipient can watch. The number of clicks after recording matters more than the size of the record button. ## Where do the files live? Vendor hosting is convenient and enables workspace analytics. Your own cloud storage offers more direct control and can reduce dependency on another content silo. Decide which tradeoff fits your organization. ## Which edits happen automatically? Trimming is table stakes. Look for useful automation: cursor smoothing, click-aware zoom, captions, silence detection, and titles. Confirm whether those features remain editable after they are generated. ## What does the price become over time? Compare the total for the number of people who create videos—not only the first month. Subscriptions can make sense when hosting, enterprise controls, and collaboration justify them. A one-time license can make more sense for individual Mac users who already have storage. ## Does privacy match the work? Understand what leaves the device, which providers process transcripts, what permissions the app requests, and how recordings are shared. “AI-powered” should never be the end of the privacy explanation.
